Ep. 90: I Literally Prayed

January 6, 2018 Fat Mascara
Jamie Kern Lima

Jamie Kern Lima

Jamie Kern Lima, CEO and founder of IT Cosmetics—and QVC queen—joins us this week to talk about how she used her own skin troubles as inspiration for her brand, the struggles of launching a startup, and what it's like to lunch with Oprah  (yeah, we're jealous too). Before that, we recap Jess's dreamlike trip to Lush Cosmetics' Upper East Side Spa; Jenn speculates if mud really does help your skin; and Tahirah Hairston asks the question, "Is exfoliation better than sex?" in Lenny. We have thoughts.

Carly Cardellino

Carly Cardellino

Cosmopolitan.com's beauty director Carly Cardellino joins us this week for a 2017 wrap up. We hear about the best performing stories—well, videos—of 2017 on Cosmo.com, why it was the year of glitter, and even get some predictions for what trends will be big in 2018. On a personal note, Carly also shares her fitness tips, how she made major career moves, and her all time favorite products (including a mascara that she recommended to Sir John and that he now uses on Beyoncé!).

Before that, there's a discussion about Pat McGrath Lab's new line of merch; whether exercise actually helps your skin; and Daniel Martin's makeup tricks for "boosting vitality" when you're feeling sick. Below are links to the products, brands, and people mentioned on the show. If you have any questions (or just want to say hi) reach out to us on Instagram, Twitter or via email (info@fatmascara.com).

This week, Sylvie Chantecaille, founder of (you guessed it) Chantecaille, talks about her start with Diane von Furstenberg, launching Prescriptives, her ultra chic signature line, and how she uses luxury beauty to make the world a better place for bees, lions, elephants, and more.

Also on this episode: Jess and Jenn discuss Pantone's color of the year, Ultra Violet; the rising K-beauty trend "glass skin"; and how to donate those new and used products you've been hoarding this holiday season. Below are links to the products, brands, and organizations mentioned on the show. December 1, 2017 Fat Mascara
Kristofer Buckle

Kristofer Buckle

This week we have the fabulous (not to mention hilarious) Kristofer Buckle on the pod. As a celebrity makeup artist, Kristofer has worked with everyone from Blake Lively to Mariah Carey, and he has some crazy stories to share (think: how to dolphin-proof Mariah Carey's makeup). He also gives us some genius tips for adjusting your makeup as you age. And you should definitely follow his advice because this guy is 49 but looks like he's 27!

Before that, we discuss discontinued hair products, Racked.com's article about all the swag (and waste) that beauty and fashion editors receive, and those white bumps that often form on the skin around your eyes (it's everyone's friend milia!). Below are links to the products, places, and brands mentioned on the show. hairstylist Vernon François

hairstylist Vernon François

On this episode, we chat with celebrity stylist Vernon François about about all things textured and natural hair, how he fell in love with hairstyling (hint: it has to do with mops), and some of the biggest challenges he's had to overcome, such as growing up with dyslexia and red hair. He drops major wisdom about your strands—and just life in general. You must check out the Teen Vogue video in which he thanks his dyslexia and his photo in Thomas Knight's Red Hot 100 photo book and ongoing exhibition.

Before that, we test out Kim Kardashian West's Crystal Gardenia fragrance on our new—still unnamed—fragrance -sniffing segment (email us to suggest a name for it!) ; give advice on how to reduce the appearance of stretch marks; and discuss how to clean gross-looking hairbrushes.

Below are all the products, people, and brands mentioned on the show. If you have any questions (or just want to shoot us a hey!) feel free to reach out to us on Instagram, Twitter or by email (info@fatmascara.com).

Sarah Brown

Sarah Brown

This week, former beauty director for Vogue and host of American Beauty Star, Sarah Brown, gives us the behind-the-scenes scoop on the reality competition TV show and a look back at her 15-year career at the magazine. Perhaps more importantly, she shares the beauty products she can't live without (see the list below).

But before the big interview, we have some things to discuss! First up: all the new hair and body products coming out now (and very soon) that feature micellar technology. We also talk about new laser treatments that rejuvenate your lady parts, including CO2RE Intima, which is available at doctor's offices, including Dr. Paul Frank's in New York City (you may remember him from Episode 19 of the podcast). Finally, we both got a chance to see The Kevyn Aucoin Story: Larger Than Life, the new movie about makeup artist Kevyn Aucoin's life, and we share our thoughts. If you want details on Jess's bachelorette party, keep listening 'til the Raise A Wand segment at the end.
